8th Operations Management Workshop Postponed

Check back at a later time for new dates and updated information. Thank you.

Welcome

8th Operations Management Workshop, Reoperation of Reservoirs in Response to a Changing Climate and Changing Operational Priorities, is sponsored by the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

The 2010 workshop will focus on current reservoir management practices in response to climate change, increasing emphasis on environmental flows, and conflicts over operational priorities.

Operations management involves continual communication between project stakeholders and those responsible for water management. Key topics for the 2010 program include:

  • Reoperation of reservoirs under climate change,
  • Conjunctive use of surface and ground water,
  • Environmental flows, and
  • Intractable conflicts in reservoir operations.

Sessions will also look at the state of the science in climate change prediction and uncertainty and responding strategies and considerations for reservoir management. The workshop sessions will include presentations, case studies, break-out sessions, and discussion groups.

The workshop will be held in the Southeastern United States for the first time because of several critical issues facing the region:

  • Heated regional water-sharing and reservoir operations disputes with national ramifications;
  • Pending court rulings that threaten Atlanta's water supply, including interpreting federal water control authority and endangered species protection requirements;
  • Proximity to several key state and federal water and environmental management agencies; and
  • Florida Everglades national ecosystem restoration efforts and conflict among competing environmental and water supply interests.

The 2010 workshop will provide an opportunity for operations and management (O & M) personnel of water resources projects to come together in a common forum to exchange ideas and share discussions on current issues, applications of new technology, and the day-to-day challenges of operating and maintaining a water resources project.

Who Should Attend

The workshop will emphasize practical aspects of reservoir management and is typically attended by U.S. and international water management professionals, agency personnel, and academics.

Conference Format

The two-and-a-half-day conference will include a plenary session, eight technical break-out sessions, trade exhibits, and networking events. Proceedings will be published by the American Society of Civil Engineers and will be provided to all registrants onsite at the conference.
